Posted by ccasc on January 29, 2009

Do you think that the ASC is only for English 101 students? Well, you’re wrong! We have tons of GRE and Praxis study materials at your disposal! Don’t let these tests sneak up on you; get some help in the ASC!

If you just want to borrow one of our study books, you don’t have to make an appointment. You can just come on in and borrow one.

WCP starts this week!

Posted by ccasc on January 26, 2009

Attention, English 101 students!  At the beginning of the semester, you wrote a diagnostic essay for your professors to determine whether you would benefit from the ASC’s Writing Consultation Plan.  Your professors have looked at those essays, so we are getting lists of students to expect in the ASC.  The WCP is a program to help polish your writing skills to help you succeed in your English classes.  You will be required to attend weekly sessions in the ASC for four weeks, after which point you will take another diagnostic essay.  If your prof has already informed you that you should be in the program, come on by and make an appointment on our brightly-colored, hard-to-miss appointment board.  Don’t wait until later – we tend to fill up rather quickly once other profs begin assigning papers, and you don’t want to miss out on a single WCP session.

Hope to see you soon!

Get some inaugural help with your writing tomorrow!

Posted by ccasc on January 20, 2009

Barack Obama’s presidency isn’t the only thing beginning tomorrow.  The Academic Skills Center’s Spring Hours begin at 9:00 tomorrow morning.  We’ve got good news for you night owls: the ASC will be open until 10:00 pm several nights a week – later than we’ve ever been open!  Here are the spring hours:

Monday 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Tuesday 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Wednesday 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Friday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Sunday 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Remember, students are strongly encouraged to sign up for an an appointment.  We do take walk-ins; HOWEVER, we always give first priority to students with appointments.  Simply put, you can stop by whenever you want, but there is no guarantee that a consultant will be free to help you.  So just make an appointment – it’s so simple!  The sign-up board is right outside the ASC, in the basement of Edens.  It’s the big board with the pink and purple diamond pattern.  You can’t miss it.

Hey there, C2!

Posted by ccasc on January 20, 2009

Greetings from the basement of Edens Library!  The Writing Consultants of the ASC have decided to start this blog in order to keep you all updated on what we’re doing and how it serves you.  Here on this blog, you’ll find updates on workshops or other events being hosted by the ASC, writing and test-taking tips, and messages from the Writing Consultants.  You’ll also find links to other English blogs and resources to help you with your papers and tests.  We hope to update the blog fairly frequently, so keep checking- you never know what you’ll find.
